Every year, 24,000,000,000 tons of fertile soil are lost

While the population increases, agriculture is under high pressure and increasingly dependent on chemical industry giants.

We have developed natural products to help the soil recover naturally, which conquer our first market: Golf courses.

Now is the time to act.

Stagnating yields

US food contains up to 38%
fewer nutrients than 80 years ago.

Increased climate stress

21% of agricultural land have reduced productivity.

Policy-driven demands

50 % reduction of pesticides and fertilizers by 2030, EU Green Deal.

Our values

We have started this journey to make soil and agriculture ready for the future. This must be in harmony with nature, without overlooking the responsibility to feed the world's population.

And why golf? Grasses on golf courses are the most difficult crops to manage. As a start-up, we have to prove our impact. If sustainability and biodiversity are worthwhile here, then it is worthwhile everywhere under all conditions.

Our Team

Welcome to the alganize team - a dynamic collective of professionals made up of outstanding graduates from the renowned Humboldt University of Berlin and the Technical University of Munich. Our shared passion for agriculture and biotechnology drives us to develop innovative solutions that shape the future of the agricultural industry.

Karl Manias
CEO

My passion for sustainable development and my commitment to environmentally friendly solutions drive me to develop innovative approaches that increase productivity while reducing environmental impact.

Omar Khalaf
COO

I've always wanted to be a superhero and fight for justice. Farmers and the environment are currently in a difficult situation. We are committed to ensuring that agriculture and nature are better off in mutual terms.

Nils Brüggemann
CTO

I truly believe that science, economic and socials aspects have to go hand in hand to achieve a substantial sustainable impact.
That’s where we aim for at alganize and what is our strength. Let’s make a change!

Benjamin Schmidt
Data Analyst

I am convinced that a healthy microbiome will significantly influence a sustainable turnaround. In order to be able to observe and assess both positive and negative changes, I analyze large data sets for alganize studies.

SDGs

At alganize, we integrate key UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into our mission to drive environmental and social impact. Prioritizing sustainability ensures our innovations contribute to a healthier planet and a more equitable future.

Why we started alganize

In 2018, Nils traveled to India as a student of agricultural science with his friend Amit, who wanted to start a project for the cotton farmers there. He witnessed firsthand how poor agricultural practices led to massive land losses, ultimately resulting in a devastating wave of farmer suicides. That experience made him realize the crucial importance of soil health for sustainable farming. Soil supports the vast majority of the food humanity eats. It is one of the most important warehouses of planet-warming carbon. And, according to a recent study in the journal Nature, it is home to nearly 60 percent of all species. Every year, the world loses billions of tonnes of topsoil to overgrazing, deforestation, pollution, and other threats.

Depleted soil = depleted planet.

Ever since he and the team have been committed to working on solutions that improve soil health across a range of applications.
